It seems our favourite weed, poppies; don’t get on too well here in Devon. Some neighbouring county’s are a washed with red fields this time of year. Poppies seeds lay in many fields but the pesticides that farmers use annually on their crops leaves the poppies dormant for many years. As a result when a farm turns organic or (more than likely case with this photograph) the framer forgets to spray his field, the poppies rise alongside the crops competing for the light. I was lucky to spot this field while driving to a friends house, although not a complete blanket of red, this is still a rare sight within Devon’s conventional working landscape. I visited the patch a few evenings later and lucked out first visit with a side lit pastel sky as the sun dipped below the steep hill to my left.
